A large koi keeps an eye on me in the pond between the Gates Montane Garden and the Laura Smith Porter Plains Garden at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

This particular koi acted for all the world as if it were studying the weird creatures on the shore of its lake… It kept swimming between the bench I was at and another on the other side of the lake. Each time it stopped, it kept fairly far away from the actual shore (so I don’t think it was trying to be fed), and would turn sideways so that one of its eyes was facing the people on shore. After a minute or two, it would swim back to the other bench and do the same thing.

It was the oddest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

A large Colorado bonsai in the Bill Hosokawa Bonsai Pavilion at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

This is not one of my usual kind of photos, as it’s a bit “tourist-y”. But I liked this bonsai a lot, and wanted to share/remember it.
